Recent hail or high winds in the Quad Cities? Damage is easiest to document early. Call 563-888-8967
Hail & wind damage · Quad Cities

Storm damage? Start with an inspection.

After hail or high winds, the hard part usually isn't the roof — it's knowing what was actually damaged and how to prove it. Roof Drs inspects the roof and exterior, documents what matters, and walks the insurance claim with you from the first call through the final shingle.

What to look for

Storm damage doesn't always look like storm damage.

Most hail and wind damage is invisible from the driveway. It shows up months later as a leak, a stained ceiling, or a roof that fails years early. Here's what our inspectors check for — and what you can look for yourself from the ground.

01

Missing or lifted shingles

Wind can peel shingles back or break the seal underneath without taking them off the roof. Once that seal is broken, water gets in on the next storm.

02

Hail bruising & granule loss

Hail knocks the protective granules off the shingle surface and can bruise the mat underneath. It's easy to miss from the ground and it shortens roof life significantly.

03

Dented gutters, siding & trim

Soft metal takes hail first. Dents on gutters, downspouts, fascia, or your AC unit are one of the clearest signs the roof was hit too.

04

Ceiling stains & attic moisture

Brown rings on a ceiling, damp attic sheathing, or a musty smell after rain usually point to a compromised roof, flashing, or underlayment.

05

Damaged flashing & vents

Chimneys, skylights, pipe boots, and vent caps are the weak points in any roof system — and the first places storm damage turns into an active leak.

06

Granules in the gutters

If your gutters or the ground below the downspouts look like coarse black sand, the shingles are shedding their surface. That's worth an inspection.

How it works

Four steps, and you're not doing any of them alone.

The insurance side is where most homeowners get stuck. We handle the parts that cause the headaches — inspecting the damage, documenting it properly, and staying involved while the claim moves instead of handing you a quote and disappearing.

No cost to have us look
No obligation to file
Straight answers either way
Step 1

We inspect the roof and exterior

A full walk of the roof, gutters, siding, and trim. We photograph everything we find and tell you honestly whether you have damage worth filing on.

Step 2

You get claim-ready documentation

Photos, measurements, and a clear summary of the damage in the language insurers expect — so nothing important gets left out of the file.

Step 3

We help with the insurance side

We walk you through what to expect, make sure the documentation is in your carrier's hands, and stay reachable while the claim is reviewed — step by step, so you're not decoding it alone.

Step 4

We complete the repair or replacement

Manufacturer-certified installation, our own crews, and a job site left clean. You get one point of contact from the first call to the final inspection.

Insurance support

What we actually do on the insurance side.

We're a roofing contractor, not your insurance company — we can't approve a claim or tell you what your policy covers. What we can do is make sure the damage on your home is documented properly and represented accurately to whoever is making that decision.

  • Photograph and measure the storm damage before anything gets patched or cleaned up.
  • Explain in plain English what we found, what's cosmetic, and what's a real problem.
  • Help you understand what your carrier will likely want to see in the file.
  • Point out when the approved scope doesn't appear to match the damage we documented.
  • Take another look at a claim that was already denied or paid short of the actual scope.
  • Keep you updated at each step instead of leaving you chasing a phone number.

Storm damage FAQs

The questions we get after every storm.

Straight answers on inspections, claims, and timing. If your question isn't here, call us — we'd rather talk it through than have you guess.

How do I know if I really have storm damage?

Usually you can't tell from the ground, and that's the honest answer. Dented gutters or downspouts, granules washing out of the downspouts, or shingle debris in the yard are strong hints. The only way to know is to have someone walk the roof — which is what an inspection is for.

What does an inspection cost?

Nothing, and there's no obligation to file a claim or hire us afterward. If we don't find damage worth filing on, we'll tell you that and you can get on with your day.

Should I call you before I file a claim?

We'd recommend it. Filing on a roof that doesn't have real damage doesn't help you, and a claim filed without documentation is easier for a carrier to shortchange. An inspection first tells you whether there's something to file on and gets the evidence on record.

How long do I have to file after a storm?

That depends entirely on your policy and your carrier — most have a filing deadline, and it's shorter than people expect. Check your policy or ask your agent. Either way, damage is easier to attribute to a specific storm when it's documented early rather than a year later.

What if the adjuster misses part of the damage?

It happens more than you'd think. Because we document the damage independently before the adjuster visit, we can show you exactly what was found and what the approved scope covers — so if something important was left out, you have the evidence to go back and ask about it.

My claim was already denied. Is it over?

Not necessarily. We've had homeowners come to us after a denial, get the damage properly documented, and end up with an approved claim. Send us what your carrier gave you and we'll tell you whether we think it's worth another look.

Will filing a claim raise my rates?

That's a question for your agent — rating is up to your carrier and we won't pretend to speak for them. What we can say is that storm damage claims are generally treated differently than at-fault claims, and your agent can tell you exactly how yours is handled.

How fast can you get out here?

Usually within a few days, though it stretches after a major hail event when the whole area calls at once. Call 563-888-8967 and we'll give you a real date rather than a maybe.

Do I have to pay my deductible?

Yes. Your deductible is your responsibility under your policy, and any contractor offering to waive it, eat it, or work around it is asking you to take part in insurance fraud. We don't do that. What we can do is talk through our 0% financing options if the timing is tight.

Are you local, or storm chasers?

Local. Roof Drs is locally owned and based in Davenport, licensed in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, and we work here year-round. We're still here when the out-of-state crews have moved on to the next hail map.
